About Good Beginnings Childcare Training

Making high-quality training available to all childcare providers in British Columbia was a long- standing goal of BC Family Child Care Association (BCFCCA).  Research—and BCFCCA’s own experience—showed that proper

training plays a key role in delivering quality childcare.

BCFCCA’s original Introduction to Family Child Care Course was widely respected and often recommended during the licensing process.

In 2017 BCFCCA developed and updated the GOOD BEGINNINGS: Professional Development for Childcare Providers 30 hour course.  At this time, a 20 hour Responsible Adult course was developed for those were planning to work in an existing child care. This expanded curriculum is recognized by licensing officers across the Province and meets the training requirements to work with children from birth to age 12 in a variety of settings such as Occasional Licensed Childcare, Licensed Group Care (School-Age), and Licensed Family Childcare.

In March of 2025, BCFCCA ceased operations.  Joanne Cruickshank acquired the rights to  the Good Beginnings course and continues to offer it through distance learning and in-person sessions. She travels across B.C. with a focus on making the course available in remote communities.

Both the 30 hour and the 20 hour course are  offered through many of the Child Care Resource & Referral programs throughout the Province.
